My View to the Critical Literacy

I feel like I am a princess wake up from a long journey of dreams full with hardest obstacles ever. That is the feeling to describe when I realize that I have almost completed this semester. When I almost completed this semester, it means the Critical Literacy also will be abolish from my mind. It is like that? Nope. Because I feel in love so much with the subject of Critical Literacy since it is the hardest and critical subject compare to other subjects.

My view to Critical Literacy is totally change 360 compare to before I get to know this subject. The seniors simply put blame on Critical Literacy subject as their main stress during semester four. Sometimes I feel angry towards them. Why they have to put blame on Critical Literacy? Why everyone utter harsh words on this subject? Do they already put all their efforts on this subject before comments? If they don’t, they do not deserve at all to comments such things.

I view this subject as the subject who involves a deep thinking, efforts and understanding. If there is no effort, there will be no marks for you. For instant, assignment number 1, rules of ten. If I do not put an efforts and stay up to understand the articles, I think I won’t be able to finish the assignment. First thing first that I learn from this subject is, try as many times you can to achieve something and do not use a silly excuse likes, ’’Not enough time to do the assignment.’’ because God gives everyone 24 hours in day.

My suggestion for this subject is gives equality for every student in class. For example, the lecturer has to avoid a bias during mass lecturer. The feeling of isolated will appear in other students’ self if the lecturer keeps comparing on the high level students with students in medium level. I know sometimes the comparison is good to give an inspiration to other students, but sometimes it might hurt other students’ feeling because they might feel that they are not clever as those particular students.

In short, the precious information that I grab from Critical Literacy will remain in my minds forever. I will apply all the skills and technique that I learn from Critical Literacy in my daily life to get the best answer and choice for every obstacle. ‘’There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you die, is a process of learning.’’ (Krishnamurti, nd).  There will no ending of critical thinking in daily life even the Critical Litercay subject is over. This is to describe my feeling and view towards Critical Literacy. This is the fun, challenges, interesting and killer subject ever and thanks God I able to pass this subject successfully without facing overload stress.

Perak Starts Online Tutorials For Students

Based on an excerpt “Perak Starts Online Tutorials For Students” dated on 25th February 2013, I have my own opinion and views regarding to the issue. From my point of view, I think the idea is brilliant due to some benefits that come along with this idea.

The benefit of online tutorials is offer a live interaction between students and tutors. In contrast to traditional face-to-face education, where the students are taught by a tutor in front of about 30 students and more, online tutoring preserves specialty of face-to-face education through live interaction such as Skype, web cam and video call between the students and tutors. By not abandon the factor of distance, this online tutoring which involved a student and a tutor allow for an effective dialogue between the student and tutor. The student will get a full attention from the tutor through voice and video conferencing software compare to study in the class that will lead to unlimited focus of study.

In addition, it offers a different environment of study. Different environment here means the students and tutors able to interact through video conferencing in the comfort of their own homes. Studies reveal that comfort is a top priority when it comes to effective learning. The chaotic and loud environment is a distraction to the students to get better understanding on the subject teaches by their tutors. At home, the students and tutors will engage on online face-to-face interaction tutorials within an environment that is familiar and conducive compare to class. Those criteria offer from online tutorials will encourage the students to have successful understanding on the subjects thus a key to an effective learning.

Lastly, online tutoring gives a luxury to students and tutors in term of time. Before starting the online tutoring, both of the student and tutor will ask each other when they have pleasure and suitable time to do video conferencing. Once they have deal the time that both are available and free, the tutors can start the online tutoring to the students on the time that they have deal.  This is definitely different from ordinary class in school which by hook or by crook the class starts at 8 pm and end at 6 pm sometimes. The flexible time offered in online tutoring sometimes make students and tutors feeling delight because there has no force on doing the online tutoring.

To conclude, I think Perak is one step closer to a successful country like United States which applied these online tutorials for quit long time compare to Asian country. The implementation of online tutoring will give a lot of benefits to the students, tutors, society and country as a whole. Thus, it also can cover the shortage in learning during traditional face-to-face education. The government should apply the online tutorials in other states in Malaysia so that there will be no differences and gap between the learning styles in Malaysia. Although there are some disadvantages of online tutoring, but its advantages is far out weight the disadvantage.

FLASH OF PRIDE

As my eyes catch the title ‘’FLASH OF PRIDE’’ on the news article, many things that linger in my mind. I simply say that nowadays Malaysia is an independence country that able to achieve success after been a ‘prisoners’ in our own country for a long time. Malaysia has great leaders to sustain the independence in our country and to bring Malaysia in the eyes of the world.

From the picture itself, it symbolized proud feeling in each of the workers’ self.   They hang our Malaysia flag which is  ‘’jalur gemilang’’ at the pole of public square. The purpose of putting the precious flag at the place is to give spirit for them and make them more vigorous to do the hard job. They do not feel ashamed at all hanging the flag beside them, plus they feel very proud of the flag. This action is rarely doing among our society because some citizens in Malaysia did not appreciate independence and they just take things for granted.

Malaysia is an impressing country with all the great achievement that be obtained from a few decades ago. For example, the achievement in term of economy. Fifty years ago Malaysia is an agricultural and mining based economy with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of RM12.8 billion with very less growth rate which is 1 percent. The per capita income was about RM800 with the percentage of poverty in 1970 was 50 per cent of households. The industry and corporate sector was dominated by British and the Malaysian have less and even sometimes no opportunity to lead the industry sector. After five decades suffering, the nation is in the progress of its journey towards a developing country consistent with vision 2020. The GDP in 2006 has not drastic increasing but showing increases from one percent to six percent. It has grown from RM12.8 billion into RM277.3 billion.

Lastly Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir. A daughter of former Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir Mohamad, is a founder of Malaysia AIDS Council. She has successfully headed the Malaysian AIDS Council for more than a decade. Despite of the position, she holds a big position which is a Vice-President of AIDS Society of Asia and the Pacific. Her nonstop brilliant thoughts and ideas have made a lot of contribution to society, change perception of society towards HIV/AIDS victims as well as help the HIV/AIDS victims to have a better life than before.

‘Marrying Money’ is the young woman, older man…

Based from Oxford dictionaries, stereotyping can be defined as a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. People simply judge and give characteristics to that particular people without acknowledge them first. The society chooses to make a negative stereotyping rather than positive one and sometimes this negative stereotyping will lead to argument.

‘Marrying Money’ is the young woman, older man,  is a common stereotyping that occurs in our society and I definitely not agree with this statement. A woman marries a man because they want someone to protect her. It does not even matter if the man is quit older compare to the woman because the woman still able to get protection from the man. The society will definitely assume a young woman who marries an older man because she wants the older man’s wealth. Who knows, may be a young women marries an older man because she fall in love to an older man. The society should not simply make assumption without knowing the real story.

Furthermore, women are an independent God’s creatures. They still able to have a good life and career even they do not marry an older man. The common perception from society that women deserve to live at the kitchen forever after they get married is an old idea. Nowadays, women can have a same level of life and career with men and even better than men. This is proven when there is a lot of women leader in government position. For example, YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Rohani Binti Haji Abdul Karim which holds the position, the Minister of Women Development, Family and Community. Another example is YB Puan Hajah Nancy Binti Haji Shukri, the Minister in the Prime Minister Department. Women nowadays are educated and can have their own money without need to marry an older man to get luxury in life.

Besides, some young woman desire an older man because an older man is more matured compare to young man. The scientific shows that man slowly reaches the maturity compare to woman. That is why some women prefer an older man because some of young man even they aged 22 to 30 but still have a  childish attitude and even do not know to manage his own life. An older man’s thinking is out of box and they always thinking of the consequences. They also know to manage their life and family well.

In short, the stereotyping ‘Marrying Money’ is the young woman, older man is actually wrong and nonsense. The people who likes to judge this young women is because they feel jealous to them because they can get everything in their life. This stereotyping should be change among society because there is no benefit at all to accuse innocent woman who marries an older man.

My Expectations or Hope for the Critical Literacy Subject

Critical Literacy? What is critical? Why the subject is called Critical Literacy? Why senior assume the subject is critical? Those questions appeared in my head and keep lingering since the first time my eyes catch the sentence “CRITICAL LITERACY’’. It is hard for me actually to start the learning process of this subject because I already set my mind that the subject is hard.  My mind setting makes me feel reluctant to learn this subject. The quote by Stephen Richards, “when you do what you fear most, then you can do anything.”  The Critical Literacy is a fear for me. By hook or by crook, I have to dare myself to learn and understand this subject as this subject has no final exam, so I have to focus more on this subject.  As I just starting learn this subject, I have a lot of expectations and hope for this subject.

First of all, my expectations for this subject, Critical Literacy, are that I would be able to learn and understand everything in this subject from A to Z. I know, it is hard actually because when I asked senior the most difficult subject in semester four Dec, they will simply said “Of course Critical Literacy!’’. At that moment, I whispering to myself “WHAT??!, the same answer for the past 20 seniors I asked before. Oh God, please give me strength to go through this subject’’. I hope I will not facing any difficulties during learning this subject and even if I face the hard moment, I still able stand to encounter the obstacles of this subject.

My second expectation is I would be given a kind lecturer to teach me this subject. As the subject is quit hard, I am expecting that the lecturer is kind and understanding the students’ situation. I hope he or she would not be bored answering all the questions that my classmates and I ask regarding to the subject. As the subject is hard to understand, of course there will be a lot of unexpected questions uttered from students’ mouth. I expect he or she will try their best to answer the question in the simple but complete words to make us understand. Before registration date, I saw the name of Madam Nur Aidah written on the subject, and I am really sure that I can count on her because I have experience been taught by her during semester three, which is the subject Understanding Short Stories. Glad to have her teaching this subject because she is kind of person who try her best answering all the students’ questions in simplest way but still make me understand it.

Last but not least, I expect the quizzes, activities, discussion and assignments would not be too hard. I know my weakness on quizzes and test based on previous semester because the tests marks often did not reach my target. For this subject, seems it is rare from other subject because its critical already shown in the name of subject itself which is Critical Literacy, I hope I would get higher marks for all the quizzes and test. Talking about assignment, it is not group work, but individual! Oh my God. The subject once again increases the fear in myself. So I expect all the assignment would be run smoothly without problems and would be given enough preparation and time to finish it.
